Oliver Cowdery


Oliver Cowdery, first Assistant President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,  was born October 3, 1806 in Wells, Vermont.  He was one of the Three Witnesses of The Book of Mormon and assisted Joseph Smith in the translation.  He was ordained an Assistant President of the Church on the 5th of December, 1834.  He was excommunicated from the Church on the 12th of April, 1838, for apostasy.  Later in his life he was rebaptized into the Church and planning to travel west to join the body of the Church, but death overtook him a short time later on the 3rd of March 1850 in Richmond, Missouri.Source
