Question 41 NOTE: This question has been removed from later
editions of According to the teachings of the LDS Church, the Negro race has been denied the Priesthood, and all those who have "one drop" of Negro blood shall not hold the Priesthood in this life. We are told that the black skin is the mark of the curse (not the curse itself, though). What then is the rationale for giving the priesthood to members of the Negro race who come from the Polynesian Islands? I have seen pictures of Priesthood holders from this area of the world who are clearly from the Negroid race (remember there are only three races to choose from! ). They don't have the flat nose or large lips of the African variety, but they do have the mark itself--the black skin. Response:
