Question 16

If the First Vision was supposed to be generally known at the time it happened and was the cause of "great persecution" of Joseph (Joseph Smith 2:22), why aren't there any references to it prior to 1831?  Nothing is mentioned in any known LDS sources (private journals, letters, sermons, revelations, or other church publications) or even in "unfriendly" sources such as non-Mormon newspapers, magazines, etc.
